WHAT AN ANCHOR LOOKS LIKE
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” - Heb. 6:19
One of the most unforgettable moment in my life was when we rode a boat from an island to another island in the dawn of the night. This was when we’ve gone to a beach vacation which is also my first time riding a boat. It was unforgettable because I realized that oceans and seas have two personalities. They are so beautiful in the day, with sparkling crystal clear water and in the night they become so dark like muds (which is the exact opposite). Heart pumping and head aching journey made me think that it is the longest 30 minutes of my life. But one thing that calmed me and gave me hope that we will be safe was seeing the light from the big and tall lighthouse in the shore.
In the new testament and to this day, we can see that aside from the lighthouse, what gave stability to the boats of the fishermen were their anchors.
In Acts 27:29 Acts 27:30 Acts 27:40 , it would appear that the Roman vessels carried several anchors, which were attached to the stern as well as to the prow.
However, in Hebrews 6:19, the anchor was used by the author as a metaphor for the certainty of God’s promise . He demonstrated it as hope that it is impossible for God to lie and to quote from bible.org “ instead of going down into the ocean, this anchor goes up into the heavens, behind the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us.”“ The certain hope of our future salvation is an anchor to steady our souls while we wait on God in present storms.”- Bible.org
We may be facing adversities in our current situation, most of the time (and I am guilty of this) asking God, “I am a Christian now, but why am I experiencing these hardships and trials again?”. But God is telling us, that by Jesus as our forerunner, we have a hope anchored above, which is the certainty that our future is with Him.
It may be a hard and exhausting battle, but always remember that “ Jesus Himself is our hope and that He is our anchor.” Jesus has promised you salvation in every aspect of your life and He will do it all over again because of His boundless and limitless love for us.”
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
